Your True Financial Blueprint

All my life I have been blessed to have everything I truly need. I may not always have had everything I thought I wanted, but never did I lack anything fundamental, like a roof over my head or something to eat. In a world that believes in the myths of “there is not enough” and “more is better” most of us think that we are lacking something in our lives and that if we had more of that something, then we would be happy.

This is especially true about money. There never seems to be enough money, no matter how much of it we actually have. Our self worth seems to be measured by our net worth. Working in the financial industry for the past ten years I can see how overtly and subtly this holds true. It is my job as a financial advisor to provide people their financial assessment based on their assets versus their liabilities, and although being in debt is not a desirable way to be, hoarding a large amount in savings may not be desirable either. In both cases there is an underlining fear of “not enough”.

A while ago in a workshop that discussed the spiritual aspects of prosperity, I had a startling self-realization: what I now believe about money is likely not my true beliefs but ones I have taken on from my environment. From growing up in a family of very modest means where from a young age I had to work for everything that I wanted for myself, to then working with money for ten years in the banking system, I realized that the subconscious beliefs I held about money did not match what I was consciously trying to embrace.

I wanted to believe that I can do what I love and the money will flow. I wanted to believe that I don’t have to work hard for every penny, that life could be easy and effortless. But deep down, I realized, other beliefs were rooted firmly in place. It now has become my focus to uproot these beliefs in scarcity and hard work and to form new beliefs based on sufficiency and abundance. I am taking steps toward following my heart, doing what I love and trusting that all my needs will be met, as well as the true desires of my heart.

In these times of economic uncertainty on a global level it is important that we redefine our myths. If we believe that there is not enough, we will think that we have to compete and try to secure enough for ourselves before others get our share. If we believe more is better, we will focus on trying to accumulate senselessly without enjoying what we have. We must realize that the truth is that there are enough resources on this planet to meet everyone’s needs and that the true nature of the Universe is unlimited abundance, independent of the money culture.

To find our True Financial Blueprint we must look deeper than the surface of things. We must question our long-held beliefs about money. Whether it seems that we don’t have enough from month to month to meet our obligations, or we have large reservoirs of wealth but feel poor inside, we must take an honest look at our relationship with money. If money was originally created to be just a medium of exchange, how did it come to rule our lives? How did it get to be the determining factor of our happiness, or unhappiness?

Take a moment now to visualize what your life would look like if you could have anything you want, if money was not an issue. What kind of life would you want to live? What would truly make you happy? What would you be doing? Start with the premise that all your needs are met easily and effortlessly. What would your life look like if you were not in survival mode? Or, if in your life you have your survival needs met abundantly but are lacking meaning, let yourself imagine what a meaningful life would look and feel like. Take the time to write down your observations.

If you were able to get a sense of this kind of life, you were touching upon your True Financial Blueprint. This is how you were meant to live. You could not conceive of it in your mind, were it not possible. Did you notice a bubbling sense of joy? If you did, be sure that you were touching the deepest core of your being where your dreams live as seeds yet to sprout. These seeds have existed within you as potential since you were born. They are your individual blueprint to a fulfilled life.

It can be said that there are two significant moments in your life. The first is when you were born and the second is when you discover why. I believe that when we get to the second part, we start to unfold our True Financial Blueprint, for each of us has a purpose for being here and it must be that if we were given a purpose, we were also given the means to its accomplishment. A seed contains all the information it needs to grow into the plant it is meant to become. So do we contain the information within us to grow into who we were meant to become. And the means to its accomplishment will be provided no differently than everything was provided when we were still in the womb.

Is it possible that in our search for more material wealth, or in our daily struggle for survival we have forgotten the meaning and purpose of our existence? Is it possible that when we align ourselves back to our purpose that the happiness we sought from more material wealth will be found, and that all of our survival needs will be met without effort? I would like to think so. And I am embarking on a journey to find out! Will you join me? I believe none of us were meant to do this alone. I believe we were meant to act together and support each other along the way.
